The Institute of Dance Artistry (IDA) would like to take a moment and thank all of our students, parents and friends for making the Summer of 2014 a fantastic experience. This was the second year of our Summer Intensives and both workshops were amazing. On two separate occasions groups of dancers with a broad range of age groups from different areas with different experiences came together. Within one week each group became a lot more than just a coherent performing unit. The way each workshop’s participants came together as a community that communicated and cared about each other was breath taking. I’ve been involved with dance for most of my life and I don’t remember having a summer quite like 2014. There was a depth of feeling at IDA that I don’t think we’ve ever had. I’m sad that it’s over but I’m very grateful that all of us had the opportunity to experience it.
People ask me what dance at IDA is all about. I think the best way to answer is it’s not just about teaching kids to put on a costume and learn some steps. It’s about caring and caring for each other. It’s about community and it’s about respect and love for the art form. We want each and every student who passes through our doors to become a better dancer. Just as important, we want them to become a better, more fulfilled person.
I’m excited about our Fall schedule which is underway. Our five rep companies are already rehearsing and we have a lot of great classes filled with some terrific students. Don’t know why but I have a really good feeling about what’s happening. I think it could be very special. Stay tuned. Speaking of classes, slots are still available for our Fall, 2014 classes but they are filling up rapidly.
At IDA you don’t just learn dance, you live dance.
