Summer is one of the best times of year for many reasons. There’s no dispute that water ice, beaches, ice cream and sun-kissed skin are good for the soul but it is also a time to reflect on progress, relish in achievements and set goals for the future. At IDA, students and teachers participate in summer dance programs that provide the necessary tools to help everyone achieve that “next level”.
Our Summer Dance Program offers weekly classes that keep the momentum going from the school year. Without a performance to prepare for, the students and teachers are able to focus mainly on technique and individual growth during a significant less stressful time of year. This is also a great opportunity for students to try out a new dance style/class without the pressure of committing to a full school year. It’s exciting to see potential blossom in a dancer who is pushing their limits but even more exciting to see them fall in love with a new expression of dance!
For the dancer seeking a deeper level of focus and training, we offer the Summer Intensive. This one-week program is designed for dancers to be pushed in their technical and artistic areas. Our mornings are filled with fun, challenging classes that help each student maintain and improve their technique while the afternoons concentrate on choreography and artistry. Each student will learn three pieces that they will perform in a two-night performance. During this week, the dancers (and teachers) are living and breathing dance. I know for a fact myself and my colleagues wouldn’t be anywhere else! The memories and bonds that are formed between everyone involved are everlasting and are significant stepping stones for our students discovering who they are, not only as dancers but as young adults. The support, teamwork, and comradery are truly heartwarming and for a teacher to witness that firsthand is beyond rewarding.
So yes, we eat our water ice, we head to the beach, we take a break from the everyday grind but we also take advantage of the gift of time. The time to continue the journey, to push our bodies, our boundaries, to discover and nurture new versions of who we are.
