Each year IDA puts on a dance benefit concert that involves our company dancers, staff, and professionals from in and around Philadelphia. Generations has become a day that isn’t only filled with exciting, beautiful dancing but it’s also the day that we use our gift and love for dance to benefit others.
Dancing is very individualized in that your body is your instrument. You alone struggle, improve and express. Yes, when working with a group in a piece it can become more of a team effort; Timing, partnering and sharing energy within the choreography. However, the journey and overall experience are based on the effort and growth of yourself as a dancer. Generations (and IDA in general) involve our young dancers in recognizing that you can give back to your community using your gift and remind us that it’s not always about you.
We feel great pride when we put on this very special performance. It’s what separates us from most studios that focus their time on competitions. Competition dance can be rewarding for dancers, but that’s where it ends, with the dancer. When you choose to get involved with something like Generations and find a cause you are passionate about, your dancing starts a ripple effect. We perform. The audience experiences the thrill and joy from watching the dance. The concert brings awareness to the cause. The fundraising financially supports the cause. Most importantly, the people you are dancing for FEEL the support. They know that someone cares and that they are not alone in their time of need. A trophy really doesn’t compare to that.
