“During the first Generations Benefit Dance Concert in 2005, I knew it was special and hoped it would continue. Eleven years later, here we are preparing for the 11th annual Generations. This year’s concert has more IDA students performing in it than ever before with the additions of our Junior Hip-hop Companies. IDA’s Senior and Junior Repertory Companies will perform modern, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and tap. IDA’s Junior Hip-hop Companies will premiere their newest piece and Senior Hip-hop Company will perform a favorite from the spring season.
Sharing the stage with the students are the IDA teachers. Miss Kelli’s fierce jazz company Project Moshen will take the stage and Dominick Boyd’s incredible hip-hop company Born into the Arts will amaze. IDA teachers also will perform small group pieces and solos making for a well-mixed and highly entertaining show.
The most meaningful part of Generations is that all of these dancers come together in this concert for something bigger than dance. Generations is all about giving. This year we work as a team and as a dance family to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Tickets to Generations are $20 and all $20 from the ticket price goes to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Over the past 10 years we have raised more than $45,000 for worthy charities including Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium, Katie’s Kids for the Cure, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Be The Match, CHOP, Ronald McDonald House, and more. Our dance family will also be collecting spare change for Pennies for Patients. This is also a program to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. All of our IDA students can collect change on behalf of Pennies for Patients. Through our love of dance we can give back to the community.
Seeing our student dancers fully embrace Generations and what it is all about is very special. The concert is a just an hour and a half but we live the spirit of Generations for months. The students not only work hard in rehearsals for the show but they also promote the show and fundraise to produce the show. We are grateful to our community who has supported Generations. We hope to see you on November 22nd 4:00pm at Montgomery County Community College Science Center Theater for a wonderful afternoon of dance, giving, and celebration.”
