“I love directing IDA’s Hip Hop Company. It is the highlight of my week. The dancers are very dedicated, hardworking, professional and a joy to be around. Hip Hop company dancers rehearse once a week, learn 3 dances a year that are choreographed by professional choreographers, get the true professional dance company experience and are part of a group of dancers who are serious about taking dance to the next level.
HHC emphasis is on hard work, challenging yourself and having fun. As a part of HHC you learn to work as a company, pick up choreography quickly, learn about the style of hip hop, and act as a role model to the younger students.
HHC is special to me because Hip Hop was my way into becoming a professional dancer. It’s where it all started for me. The first time I stepped into a hip hop class it was second nature. It felt like a second language. I trained in hip hop, jazz and other styles of dance which has molded me into the dancer I am today.
Directing HHC is a blast! It allows me to share my story and pass on my passion for dance. I love testing my boundaries with the dancers and seeing how far they can go and how much potential they have. It is very rewarding to watch the dancers grow and become the unique dancers that they are.
One of my favorite parts about directing HHC is that I get to choreograph a dance for them. I get to make sure they are learning and pushing themselves to their fullest potential.
I like to be a role model for the dancers. Especially because I was an original IDA student and now have my own professional dance company and perform all over the Philadelphia area. I want to be able to share my knowledge that I have gained from my own experiences in performing and directing and share it with my students. Whatever occupation my students eventually pursue, I just want them to look back on their childhood and know they have been part of something great and can use their group skills in the future.”
